Title: Create Work Activity User Guide
Purpose: This document provides step-by-step instructions for creating a new Work Activity in Calibrate.
Audience: This document is meant to be used by Job Profile Editors and Job Profile Reviewers who want to add a Work Activity to a Job Profile that is not already in the Calibrate library.
Assumption: Work Activities conform to a specific syntax as detailed here:
Before you begin: Work Activities describe how major units of time are organized on the job. They are observable and produce results capable of being measured. They are jargon free so they are easily understandable.
You can find the definition of the capitalized words used in this User Guide in the SkillsEngine dictionary located here.
Instructions:
1] From the Work Activities page in the Job Profile section (for Editors) or the Validate section (for Reviewers), click the Create a New Work Activity button at the bottom of the page.
2] The Create a new Work Activity screen appears.

4] Enter the verb into the Verb field.
5] As you enter words into the Create a new Work Activity screen, the Similar Existing Work Activity list at the bottom of the screen populates with possible existing Work Activities.
6] Scroll through the Similar Existing Work Activity list and see if the Work Activity you’re trying to create already exists.
7] If it does, click the “+” to the left of the Work Activity to add it to the Job Profile. You’re done. There’s no need to create the Work Activity. Otherwise continue creating the Work Activity.
8] Decide on the Object. The object is the thing the verb is acting upon. It can be a word or a phrase.
9] Enter the object into the Object field.
NOTE: The next two fields are Object Modifier and Statement Modifier. Either can be filled in and both can be filled in, but both cannot be left blank. |
10] Decide on an Object Modifier, if applicable. In this case, the object modifier is an adjective that defines or limits the object. It can be a word or phrase.
NOTE: Object Modifiers are frequently associated with a course of study. Examples include accounting, architectural, educational, electronic and scientific. |
11] Enter the object modifier into the Object Modifier field.
12] Decide on a Statement Modifier, if applicable. The Statement Modifier is a way of getting more specific about the Work Activity. It often involves the 5 Ws: what, where, when, why and with whom.
13] Enter the statement modifier into the Statement Modifier field.
14] On the far right of the Create a new Work Activity screen, click the drop down arrow of the Work Activity Category menu.
15] From the Work Activity Category menu, click the Work Activity Category that provides the best fit for the new Work Activity you just created.
16] When you have the new Work Activity as you want it, click the Submit button. The new Work Activity is added to Job Profile, as well as the Library to be used on other Job Profiles.
